Spice FLO-TV M-5600 with Live TV Launched in India

Indian mobile handset manufacturer, Spice Mobiles, has introduced FLO-TV M-5600 in India. This is a touchscreen phone featuring live TV connectivity with free-to-air reception. This means, users will be able to watch live TV on the phone without the need for an active data connection. The phone, available in “Jet Black” and “Ivory White” colors, will carry a price tag of Rs. 3,099 in India. The M-5600 is the second phone in the FLO series from Spice after the successful Spice Cappuccino.

In terms of specifications, the Spice FLO-TV M-5600 sports a 3.2-inch QVGA touchscreen capable of displaying 320×240 pixels. The screen size appears to be slightly on the smaller side, however, considering the fact that you will be using it for watching live TV. There is a 1.3MP camera at the back of the phone capable of recording videos. The M-5600 also comes with stereo FM and a microSD card slot that can be used to extend the storage capacity by an additional 8GB. The included battery is expected to provide standby and talk times of 2 days and 4 hours respectively.

The Free-to-air reception will allow users in India to intercept analog signals in order to watch a range of selected TV channels directly on the phone. This will not require users to be connected to the Internet in order to watch the channels. The Spice FLO-TV M-5600 comes with the FLO UI and direct access to Spice Mobility’s S Planet App Store. Besides the app store, the phone will come pre-loaded with a slew of utilities including multimedia features and social network connectivity. Spice Mobility’s Kunal Ahooja was quoted as saying:

In this era of convergence, mobile phones are the best medium of displaying the result of integration of technologies. With a revolutionary product like FLO TV – M 5600, we have redefined innovation and turned a new leaf in the mobile handsets industry.

Spice FLO-TV M-5600 can be purchased at any of the 750+ Spice HotSpot Retail Stores across India, besides other retail and online stores. Live TV is a concept that is gaining popularity across the globe but is yet to catch up in India. The M-5600 might just be the push in the right direction.
